New Store locator iOS app version is live

Recently we have updated our Store locator iOS app to make it a much nicer app and add some additional functionality.

This time we took one step back and started thinking about what we could do to make this app even more appealing and easier to adopt for other developers. We actually started from the bottom, created a new design in Sketch, added new features and used more benefits of parse.com to completely adopt all of its capabilities.

Personally I love refactoring and making existing code better and more efficient. Loved working on the new version of our StoreLocator iOS app template and still have some new exciting features to be added in our pipeline.

But let’s look at those changes first.

New features of Store Locator iOS app

Social login

We have created a brand new social login and registration screen, so your user can login/register inside the app and leave reviews at your stores.

An additional functionality could be to add of marking stores as favorites.

Parse Cloud Code

General rule in mobile app development is that if you can get some work off of your app, than DO IT! Thanks to Parse.com’s Cloud Code we could speed up the performance of the app by moving some fetching from the client side to the Cloud Code and executing those calls there. For example we used it to get all the user reviews of a store, average rating and review count all with one call.

New Store detail view

Since the previous version of the Store Locator app didn’t have too much information at the store detail view, we made the biggest change here. We introduced a new way of handling rows and sections for a UITableView, making it super easy to customise your layout and add new rows/sections.
